A big open world, and a fair platinum
Team Ninja swapped Nioh's corridors for an open Japan on the brink of revolution — and the result is one of the studio's most ambitious games. Fluid, style-switching combat is still the star, wrapped in a Bakumatsu-era world of bonds, factions and choices.
For trophy hunters it's a friendly one: at 33% platinum rate, nothing here is brutal. You'll clear the three-chapter story, complete every ally's Bond Missions (the big gold), master the training dojos, and mop up open-world collectibles — cats, photo spots, fugitives and 100 assassinations.
The catches
Watch the "save your allies" trophies (Shinsaku Takasugi, Soji Okita, Ryoma Sakamoto) — these are tied to raising their bonds and making the right story choices, so follow a guide before their arcs. The two golds — all Bond Missions and one mission on Midnight difficulty — plus beating the optional Blue Demon are the only real time or skill checks.
The Verdict — Pros
- Deep, style-switching Team Ninja combat
- Huge open world with real historical flavour
- Fair, exploration-driven platinum (no online required)
The Verdict — Cons
- Some fiddly "save your ally" choice trophies
- Collectible cleanup (cats, photo spots) needs a guide
- Open world can feel a touch repetitive
Rise of the Ronin — Platinum Roadmap
Step-by-Step Roadmap
Play the story + raise bonds
Clear the three chapters, and as you go, raise Area Bonds (public order) and Personal Bonds with allies — especially the ones tied to the missable "save your ally" trophies.
Bond Missions + training
Complete all Bond Missions (the gold), max the four dojo trainings (dojo, horseback, gliding, firearms), and master three combat styles.
Open-world cleanup
Mop up cats, photo spots, 50 fugitives and 100 assassinations, hit Level 55 and 150,000 sen — follow a locations guide for the collectibles.
The last challenges → platinum
Beat the optional Blue Demon aboard the Black Ship and clear one mission on Midnight difficulty. The final trophy flips the Platinum.
