Story & Endings

Every main-mission and ending pop across the three chapters — plus the missable choice trophies for saving your allies and sealing your Blade Twin's fate.

Missable: saving Shinsaku Takasugi, Soji Okita and Ryoma Sakamoto depends on your bonds and story choices, and the two ending trophies branch — keep a save before Chapter 3's finale.

How to earn it

Awarded the instant every other trophy is unlocked. There's no separate task — it caps off the roadmap once you've cleared the three chapters, completed all Bond Missions, mastered the four trainings and finished the open-world cleanup.

Tip

At 33% rarity this is one of the friendlier big open-world platinums. Work the four category pages here in order — Story, Bonds, Combat and Exploration — and nothing will slip through the cracks.

Unlocks for finishing the Prologue — the long tutorial where you and your Blade Twin train as Veiled Edge assassins and raid Perry's Black Ship. It teaches the pillars of combat: Counterspark parrying, style-switching and the grappling hook. Simply play it to the end.

Tip

Don't rush the parry tutorial. Clean Counterspark timing is the backbone of every hard fight later — including the Blue Demon and Midnight Crossing — so drill it now while the stakes are low.

How to earn it

Story-automatic. Early in Chapter 1 a cutscene reveals your Blade Twin survived the Black Ship and now stands on the opposing side — the thread that drives the entire game. This also opens up the free-roam open world.

Tip

The moment the map opens, start raising Area Bonds (public order) as you travel between missions. They build passively and snowball the completion trophies, so there's no reason to wait.

A main-mission pop for breaking into the prison to reach the captured scholar Shoin Yoshida. You can fight your way in or slip through with stealth takedowns.

Tip

Play this one stealthily. Every silent assassination here counts toward the 100 needed for Shadow Stalker, and the enclosed layout is perfect for chaining them.

During a Chapter 1 story beat, Taka Murayama asks you to take a photograph. Open the camera when prompted, frame the subject and confirm the shot. It's fully scripted and can't be missed.

Tip

This is your introduction to the camera — the same tool you'll need for the Sightseer photo-spot trophy. Get comfortable zooming and framing here so the photo spots go quickly later.

Awarded for completing Chapter 1. Keep pushing the main quest and it pops during the closing cutscene.

Tip

Before you advance, sweep the Yokohama region for cats, photo spots and any open Bond Missions — it's far quicker to clean an area up while you're already in it than to backtrack later.

Story pop for the scene where you meet Kaishu Katsu at the Sumida River in Edo. Progressing the main quest triggers it automatically.

Tip

Kaishu is a major historical ally — start his Bond Missions as soon as they appear. Higher bonds here feed directly into the missable 'save your ally' trophies down the line.

Earned during the main story when you uncover the identity of the mysterious masked samurai at the public duel. Just play the mission through.

Tip

The duels double as free combat practice — use them to test and level a new fighting style against a skilled opponent without risking an ambush.

Pops when you broker the uneasy truce between the Roshigumi and the Choshu clan during a Chapter 2 main mission. Story-automatic.

Faction standing shifts as the story moves on — keep completing Bond Missions for both sides so no ally's relationship stalls out before their rescue trophy is due.

Awarded for clearing Chapter 2. Unmissable — it lands on the chapter's final cutscene.

Tip

Do a full collectibles and Bond sweep of the Edo region before you close the chapter, the same way you did in Yokohama. Cats and photo spots are the easiest to overlook.

Story pop for persuading Takamori Saigo to form the alliance in a Chapter 3 main mission. Just complete the objective.

Tip

You're now near the endgame — make sure every ally tied to a rescue trophy (Takasugi, Okita, Ryoma) has their bond maxed and their Bond Missions done before the finale.

How to earn it

Earned for bringing the Battle of Toba-Fushimi to an end — one of the game's large-scale set-piece battles late in Chapter 3, with waves of enemies and mini-boss duels.

Tip

Stock healing items and lean on your most-mastered style. It's a war of attrition, so favour Counterspark parries over aggression to conserve health across the long fight.

A Veiled Edge's Future

MissableYes — choice
DifficultyMedium

How to earn it

One of the two branching endings, decided by the final choice you make about your Blade Twin's fate. Because it branches, you don't have to replay the whole game — you just need a save at the point of no return.

Tip

Make a dedicated manual save right before the finale. After the credits, reload it and take the opposite choice to unlock both this and The Dawn of a New Japan from a single save file.

Awarded for clearing Chapter 3 — effectively reaching the game's ending. Finishing the final mission unlocks it regardless of which choice you make.

Tip

Pair this with A Veiled Edge's Future using the pre-finale save trick, so a few minutes of reloading nets you both ending trophies at once.

The Greater Opportunity

Saved Shinsaku Takasugi's life.

TypeBronze
LocationChapter 3 (missable)
MissableYes
DifficultyMedium

How to earn it

You must save Shinsaku Takasugi's life. His survival is decided by how high his Personal Bond is and by the choices you make through his questline — if his bond is too low or you pick the wrong options, he dies and the trophy is lost for that save.

Tip

All three rescue trophies work the same way. Complete Takasugi's Bond Missions and gift him his favourites to max his bond well before Chapter 3, and keep a save before his fate-deciding mission as insurance.

Farewell, Black Cat

How to earn it

Save Soji Okita's life. As with the other rescues, it hinges on raising his Personal Bond and choosing the correct dialogue and mission options through his arc before the decisive event.

Tip

Okita's arc is tied to the Shinsengumi storyline — knock out his Bond Missions early and keep his bond topped up so you're never caught short when his fate is decided.

Twilight Fencer

Saved Ryoma Sakamoto's life.

TypeBronze

MissableYes
DifficultyMedium

How to earn it

Save Ryoma Sakamoto's life — one of the most pivotal historical figures in the game. Build his Personal Bond and follow his questline to the right conclusion before his scripted assassination event.

Tip

Ryoma is central to the plot, so prioritise his bond above the others. Max it and finish his missions early; historically he's a target, so the game expects you to have earned the chance to intervene.
