Visions, Espers & Combat

Nine trophies built around the battle system: collecting all 26 Visions and all 9 Espers, mastering and awakening Visions, and the two long counters, 1,000 staggers and 400 Resonances.

Visions are the job system. Equip one on a character for its stats and abilities; it gains Mastery Rank (MR, max 9) from the MRP you earn in battle. MR is per character, but awakening stars (0–3, at a Moogle of Light) are shared by everyone. Expert difficulty gives 1.5× MRP, and Victoria's MR 7 passive adds 50%.

All 26 Visions

Sanctum Visions: walk in, touch the crystal and answer three questions about that Vision's game. The answers don't matter. Will Crystallized needs all 26; none are missable.

How to beat Sephiroth

Getting there: make a manual save, fly the airship to Grandshelt and land on the whirlpool beside the big bridge, north-west of the Royal Capital. Touch the crystal and accept the challenge. He's level 45 with 250,000 HP and acts twice a turn; level 50 is comfortable. Status ailments don't work on him.

Phase 1 (100–75%): his stance parries and counters physical attacks, so use magic while it's up and switch back to physical when it drops. Lid's Mechamog Scan gives him a random weakness; hitting it makes him 'pressured', which means more damage taken but much easier to stagger. Heal and buff before you push him under 75%.

Phase 2 (below 75%): he turns immune for a turn and casts One-Winged Angel (heal, buff and charge Limit Bursts). Then he cycles elemental infusions, each with a weakness and a finisher: Fire (weak to Water), Ice (weak to Fire), Lightning (weak to Earth), Wind (weak to Ice). Light is always neutral and non-elemental attacks get countered. Between infusions Heartless Angel drops everyone to 1 HP: heal the whole party on your very next action.

Phase 3: another immune turn and Heartless Angel, then a short window before his final attack: heal first, then unload every Limit Burst and Resonance. Use Light if you lose track of his element.

Reward: the Sephiroth Vision (a physical attacker; Resonance True Octaslash, eight hits on all enemies; MR 5 makes Limit Bursts and Resonances always crit), 14,500 EXP and 12,000 gil.

All 9 Espers

Fina and Archwitch Fina summon Espers. All except Carbuncle have to be beaten first. The Sovereigns of the Planet needs all nine.

EsperElementWhere and howFight
SirenWindStory: the top of Siren's Tower at the end of the Chapter 1 quest Tailing the Truth.Lv 11, weak to Lightning
RamuhLightningMt. Thunderclap, Dirnado (Chapter 2). Use the upper entrance: after leaving the dungeon, follow the path south past the Sanctum of Zidane and loop back. Inside, interact with the gravestone-like monument past the save point; any answer to his riddle starts the fight.Lv 20, weak to Earth
Carbuncle–Ruby Cave, Olderion (from early Chapter 3). No fight: read the tablet, then pick up three Ruby Fragments in order on the world map: (1) just south-east of Rukh Cave between a big and a small round pool; (2) on the straight east coast south-west of the Sanctum of Squall, roughly due east of the Cave of Waters, beside two grassy-topped hills; (3) just west of the seven waterfalls, due west of Olderion: cross two wooden bridges and climb the small grassy cliff. Return to the tablet. No battle
TitanEarthThe Sealing Stone in the desert between Siren's Tower and the Village of Kol on Grandport island. Break it with Lid's Gaia Hammer, the prize for the Colosseum's Fledgling Battle 5 (Chapter 4). No airship needed.Lv 30, weak to Wind, immune to Earth
IfritFireThe smoking volcano in the south of the Zoldaad continent, west of the Sanctum of Y'shtola. Fly the airship into the crater (Chapter 5+).Lv 33, weak to Water, immune to Fire
ShivaIceThe snowstorm on the small western island of Mysidia (west of Jotunn Cave). Land the airship and walk into the vortex (Chapter 5+). You can decline and return later.Lv 35, weak to Fire, absorbs Ice
LeviathanWaterNichol's substory Nichol's Duty in Olderion (Chapter 5): Lake Dorr, a sahagin south-east of Olderion, another near the Cave of Waters, then back to Lake Dorr for Leviathan's trial.Around Lv 23
Odin–Sub quest Iron Splitter (Chapter 6). Fina must first learn Holy (story, after the Research Centre Ruins) to clear the miasma. Start at the tablet in the Bladerain Stele cave (east Gronoa); after the Town of Duggle, head towards the Gronoa Shrine, go south at the signposted crossroads and follow the miasma path north to the second tablet and Odin. Take the Broken Sword Blade to the Nameless Ruins (south of Mysidia): second save point, NPC in the room to the north.Lv 45, weak to Lightning
Bahamut–Chapter 7, once you have the other eight. Board the airship (Square while flying), watch the scene with both Finas about the 'Lord of the Heavens', talk to Evan at the wheel and choose to go.Lv 50, no weaknesses, lots of status ailments: bring Ribbons or Esuna

Staggers and Resonances

The yellow bar under an enemy's HP is its stagger gauge. Stagger every enemy in one turn for a Sweeping Stagger: after the bonus turn, a character with a Vision performs a Resonance. For the last part of Resonance Rapid Fire, equip Leah or Ayaka (healing Resonances), leave one weak enemy alive, stagger it, heal it so it survives, and Defend through the turns in between.

The trophies

The First Step Towards Mastery

BronzeFull guideCollapse

Reach max Mastery Rank for a vision for the first time.

TypeBronze
MissableNo

How to earn it

Raise any Vision to the maximum Mastery Rank (MR 9) on one character. MR rises with MRP, earned from battles, and each rank gives stat boosts and abilities. It's slow at first and much faster later on.

Tip

MR is tracked per character: Cloud at MR 9 on Rain starts again at MR 0 if you move him to Lasswell. Plan who keeps which Vision.

Awakened Light

BronzeFull guideCollapse

Awaken a vision to its limit for the first time.

TypeBronze
MissableNo

How to earn it

Awaken one Vision to 3 stars. Visit a Moogle of Light (almost every town, and on the airship) and upgrade in order: 1 star costs a Magicite Shard, 2 stars a Magicite, 3 stars a Magicite Cryst. Crysts first appear in Chapter 5.

Tip

Magicite comes from chests, Cave Masters, sub quests and some Colosseum fights, and the Colosseum sells every type late in the game. There's enough to awaken every Vision, so spend it as you get it.

Visions Assemble

SilverFull guideCollapse

Obtain 10 visions.

TypeSilver
MissableNo

How to earn it

Own 10 Visions. You'll have this by around Chapter 3: two come with the story in Chapter 1 and the rest are shrine Visions you collect along the way.

Tip

Every shrine works the same way: go into the Sanctum, touch the crystal and answer three questions about that Vision's game. Wrong answers don't matter.

Will Crystallized

GoldFull guideCollapse

Obtain all visions.

TypeGold
MissableNo

How to earn it

Collect all 26 Visions: 16 Sanctums, Leah and Tronn from the story, Sephiroth from a fight in Whirlpool Hollow (level 45, 250,000 HP), and 7 from sub quests. None are missable, and every one is listed with its location on our Visions page.

Tip

The sub quest Visions (Camille, Wilhelm, Aileen, Victoria, Amelia, Charlotte, Ayaka) are the ones people miss: check every town's quest givers from Chapter 5 on.

Vision Connoisseur

SilverFull guideCollapse

Reach max MR with 8 visions.

TypeSilver
MissableNo

How to earn it

Get 8 different Visions to MR 9. It comes naturally during the story if you rotate: whenever a Vision reaches MR 9, swap it for one you haven't mastered yet.

Tip

Awakening stars are shared across the party, MR isn't. A Vision mastered on one character counts once.

Esper's Covenant

BronzeFull guideCollapse

Gain help from 3 espers.

TypeBronze
MissableNo

How to earn it

Have 3 Espers join. Siren comes with the story in Chapter 1, Ramuh is on Mt. Thunderclap in Chapter 2, and Carbuncle's riddle in Ruby Cave opens in Chapter 3.

Tip

Carbuncle is the only Esper without a fight: just collect the three Ruby Fragments in order.

The Sovereigns of the Planet

SilverFull guideCollapse

Gain help from all espers.

TypeSilver
MissableNo

How to earn it

Get all 9 Espers: Siren, Ramuh, Carbuncle, Titan, Ifrit, Shiva, Leviathan, Odin and Bahamut. Fina (and Archwitch Fina) summon them. Every step is on our Espers list; Bahamut needs the other eight first and is challenged from the airship in Chapter 7.

Tip

Grab them as you go: Espers are a big help in the mid-game and matter less in the endgame.

Keep Them on Their Toes

SilverFull guideCollapse

Stagger enemies 1000 times.

TypeSilver
MissableNo

How to earn it

Stagger enemies 1,000 times. The yellow bar under an enemy's HP is its stagger gauge: hit weaknesses or use stagger-focused skills (the ones with a bullet mark) to empty it. It pops on its own, usually around Chapter 4.

Tip

Players report the counter can break if you continue from a demo save, so if it's suspiciously late, start fresh.

Resonance Rapid Fire

GoldFull guideCollapse

Use Resonances 400 times.

TypeGold
MissableNo

How to earn it

Use 400 Resonances. Stagger every enemy in the same turn for a Sweeping Stagger; at the end of the bonus turn a character with a Vision performs a Resonance (an attack, heal or buff). The story gives most of these, the rest is a short grind.

Tip

Fast farm: equip a Vision with a healing Resonance (Leah or Ayaka), leave one easy-to-stagger enemy alive, stagger it, heal it with the Resonance so it doesn't die, Defend through the other turns, repeat.
