Chapter-by-Chapter Platinum Walkthrough
Valor Mortis is linear: 11 chapters across 10 regions, no optional areas, and free roam after the credits. Only one trophy can be missed, and only through how you spend an upgrade material. This page lists what to grab in each chapter so the platinum comes from a single playthrough. Locations use the in-game Lantern names from the fast-travel menu. There are no manual saves: one save file, and choosing Back to Menu saves exactly where you stand.
Chapter 1: Revival
- You start with the Saber and soon get Fire, which burns the gold vines that hide chests all game.
- Bottomless Well (Amber): from the first Lantern (Onslaught Arch) turn round, climb back up the cliffs over the branches and burn the gold vines on the left.
- Transmuted Persistence (Amber): on the battlefield keep left. Before the metal carriage, burn the vines on the left; the chest is with a group of enemies.
- Iron Grip (Amber): after the Plunge Attack tutorial (Trenches), turn right instead of climbing the wooden ledge. The chest is in the dead end behind an enemy.
- General Lothaire is a scripted loss. Use up every flask during the fight first: you'll likely wake at the next Lantern below 20% with none left, which pops In the Nick of Time (and Rookie Mistake if you press heal on empty).
Chapter 2: Regroup
- Indestructible Shell (Amber): Guidepost, in a chest on the left straight after the first Grenadier, before the next metal carriage. Shoot that Grenadier's waist bucket for Single Stroke.
- Start An Unheard Farewell at the carriage window in the same area, and finish it this chapter: Aggressive Reconnaissance + Sleight of Hand.
- Pistol: in the train car during the bridge platforming. First Empty Ferrofluid Flask: chest left of the next Lantern (The Climb).
- Oathbound Guardsman #1 (Demolished Path): from where you kick the ladder down, go back down the plague vines; behind the group of three enemies, take the path left. The chest behind him holds Perfectionism.
- The Other Side: grab the Emissary's Seal from the carriage in the poison area on the left (side quest, finished much later).
- Military Camp: Dominatus in a tent chest in a corner left of the hill, and Surplus in the cave behind the gold vines on the right up the hill. Shoot the lantern across the poison, then the weak spot, then swing across.
- Quarry: Potent Concoction behind gold vines opposite the shortcut ladder, and Marksman's Bane after the first zipline: go left, smash the boxes and reach the tower chest.
- Beat General Lothaire for real: Torn Banner. Fast travel between Lanterns opens up after this fight.
Chapter 3: Rendezvous
- Warp to Onslaught Arch: past the camp, go left at the fork and shoot the weak point on the wall. That's Oathbound Guardsman #2, with Duellist's Focus in the chest behind him.
- Rapier: in a body blocking the road from the Abandoned Church to the village (required).
- Fields: do The Scarecrow (Lover's Pendant under the big tree, Letter with a Drawing upstairs in the house up the hill past the haystacks, give both to the scarecrow, then use the two pillows in the top of the exploding-bodies barn): Bountiful Harvest. Volatile End is in the chest at the back of that barn.
- Blunderbuss: in the carriage behind the large-sword Volunteer (required).
- Marketplace: do Lullaby (empty crib, Weathered Key out the back, the Toy from the locked house across the river) for Tomorrow's Promise. Warrior's Fury is a jump from the balcony of the house the gunmen are shooting at. Note the barn by this Lantern; it's the farm spot for the combat trophies.
- Beat The Iron Marshall: Ultima Ratio Regum. Then, in the building to the right of the arena, break the boxes and drop out the back for Glass Soldier.
Chapter 4: Dark Descent
- At the Abandoned Church, Louis now sells a Ferrofluid Power Upgrade (3,000) and an Empty Flask (5,000). More stock appears in Chapters 5 and 9.
- Last Sunlight: start Homesick (the Longing Wife Letter by the memory), kill the campfire miniboss on the left (Dominatus duplicate), drop through the hole for Lucky Shot and the Death Notice on the boat, then go back to finish. The campfire here is the spot for Fight Fire With Fire.
- Weeping Ledge: Lunatic's Grasp left of the gold vines in the Carrion room. Stasis unlocks after the first crank.
- Old Mine: Oathbound Guardsman #3. Use the crate on the crane to cross, climb, use the crate again and follow the path to the cave. Then the frozen-lift area (Surplus duplicate) and Limit Break on the bottom level, round the corner under the ramp past the grapple and wall-run.
- Beat the Sphinx: Not a Cat Person.
Chapter 5: Crime
- Wolfsbane Field: start The Lost Boy (Mirek's Note). Equivalent Exchange drops from the miniboss up the grapple in the shortcut cave, and the Cellar Key is in the cave behind it; the cellar chest has Wound that Heals. The Cannonhand enemy past the weak-point wall is your Statue of Insanity.
- Under the Bridge: In the Name of Art (painting upstairs, Basement Key by the hilltop grave) for Butcher's Carnage, then The Deserter (Guardsman for the hut key, three square hives) for Hand in the Jar.
- Musket: the dual-sword Volunteer in the fort drops the Wagon Key (required). Dilated Moment: follow the river on the right of the fishing village to a dead end under a grapple point.
- Beat the Slaughtermill: Quixotry. Grab the Emissary's Letter in the tunnel straight after.
Chapter 6: Punishment
- Back at Marketplace: Oathbound Guardsman #4 on the Neptho-structure path left of the carriage (cave at the end, plus a chest with Pure Transmutation Material).
- Beat The Bride: My Dying Bride. Start Till Death at the wreath.
- Claymore: in the village church after you shoot both side weak spots (required). Finish Till Death (Red Ribbon from the grave out back, place it, rest, return) and Sleeping Beauty.
- Silent Cannons: Seamus Diggory for Blood and Wine, plus the dog miniboss (Warrior's Fury) and the exploding chest (Indestructible Shell).
- Deep Water: Oathbound Guardsman #5 on the right island round the hay bale (chest: Life Diverted).
Chapter 7: Witch Hunt
- Beat Justicar Aurelius: True Oath. At Broken Bridge, use the wall-jump enemies for Aerial Annihilation and Windhover (unlock Airborne Aiming first).
- Island of Whispers and Market Square: Laudanum for A Bitter Cure.
- Beat Experiment 83: Lament of the Limbs. Take the Quintessential Blade Material from the side lab.
- City of Orphans: collect all 17 drawings for Monster Hunt (The Book of Beasts), which rewards Quintessential Transmutation Material #1. Keep it for the Shield. Also grab Sixth Sense and Silent Squeak (children's burrow on the rooftop).
- Meet the Shrike in the Sewers: Birdwatcher.
Chapter 8: Blasphemy
- Shield: top of the stairs after the chandelier jump. That completes Arsenal Absolute and opens Jackknife. Spend Quintessential #1 on the Shield as soon as it's at level 4.
- Masterwork Firearm Parts: through the poison corridor, down the lift and out the back of the lower library, in the lecture hall chest under the balcony. Use it on your favourite gun for Gun of Glory.
- Payback: from the circular room, climb down the ladder (not up to the roof) and kill the cannon miniboss.
- Beat The Orphan: Coup de Grâce.
Chapter 9: In Ruins
- Main Gate: the cannon miniboss drops Fire Breathing.
- Traverse: light both signal fires, and the chest just left through the gate has Quintessential Transmutation Material #2. The wooden platform on the path round the castle is the Abyssal Eviction spot.
- Chapel underground: the bonfire sword for Frenzied Flame, Quintessential Blade Material #2 in the locked room and the Captain's Key and Armoury Key (Ferrofluid upgrades). Ramparts: Potent Concoction duplicate up the hidden ladder.
- Courtyard: the monster Eternal Guardsman is Oathbound Guardsman #7 (drops Glass Soldier).
- Beat Captain Raphael of the Nephtis Superioris: Behemoth.
Chapter 10: Shackled
- You start without weapons. Follow the rafters and drop into the kitchen for the Armoury Key to get your gear back.
- The Choir is the game's only missable side quest (warden's journals, the Key to the Chapel and the list of deceased prisoners), but it gives only a consumable and no trophy.
Chapter 11: Reflection + cleanup
- With the Shield you can now cross poison. Pick up what was gated: Oathbound Guardsman #6 (City of Orphans > Shamble Street, poison path by the ramp), Perfect Copy and the rest of The Emissary (Valley of Ashes > The Other Side), and The King of Smugglers (Harbour).
- With all seven Emblems, open the Oathbound wall in the Fortress Courtyard: We Wear the Same Colours, plus an Empty Flask and Quintessential Blade Material #3.
- Check the Amber table for any unique Amber still missing for Ambersmith.
- When you're ready, use the stone door by Caverns > Ancient Lair and beat the Entity: In His Own Image. You keep free roam afterwards.
