The perfect time to finally platinum GTA 5

With GTA VI arriving in November, a lot of players are going back to Los Santos to finish the one platinum they never got round to. It's big but fair: one playthrough, no difficulty settings, free roam after the credits, and every mission replayable for gold medals. The only real traps are six missable trophies, all tied to Michael or Trevor, and one simple choice at the very end.

This guide covers the PS5 and PS4 versions, which share the same 51 base-game trophies. The Heists, Rockstar Editor and Doomsday Heist lists are optional DLC and aren't needed. Cheats disable trophies, so never enter one on your platinum save.

The road to Los Santos Legend

A long 5/10: about 50–60 hours of Story Mode and 100+ hours of GTA Online. The story trophies are unmissable. The work is three big checklists (70 gold medals, 100% completion, rank 100 Online) plus a pile of side activities.

Los Santos Legend

Details

Platinum — Congratulations! You're Vinewood's biggest star! Pops when the other 50 base-game trophies are done. The Heists, Rockstar Editor and Doomsday Heist lists are separate DLC and not needed. Plan for 150+ hours: roughly 50–60 in Story Mode (story, 100%, gold medals) and 100+ in GTA Online, where the rank-100 grind for Above the Law takes most of the time. Tip: There's no difficulty setting and no missable collectible. The six missable trophies are all safe if you pick Option C (“Deathwish”) at the end of the story. Cheats disable trophies for that session, so never enter one on your platinum save.

Silver — Completed the final mission. Story: pops when you complete the final mission. You can't miss it. Any of the three endings counts, but pick Option C: Deathwish (The Third Way). Solid Gold, Baby!

Details

Gold — Earn any 70 Gold Medals on Missions, Strangers and Freaks. Earn gold on any 70 of the 115 available medals: 69 from story missions and 46 from Strangers & Freaks (41) plus Rampages (5). You can skip 45. Replay any mission from the pause menu (Game → Replay Mission), which also shows which objectives you've already met. Tip: Objectives are cumulative across replays: do the time limit on one run and the headshots on another. The Strangers & Freaks medals are the quickest. Career Criminal

Details

Gold — Attain 100% Game Completion. Reach 100% on the in-game checklist (Pause → Stats → 100% Checklist). It's made of: all 69 story missions (50%), 20 specific Strangers & Freaks (10%), 42 specific hobbies (10%), 14 of 57 random events (15%) and a miscellaneous list (15%) that includes all 50 spaceship parts and letter scraps. San Andreas Sightseer

Details

Silver — Explore all of Los Santos and Blaine County Reveal the fogged-out map. Grab a fast aircraft (a jet from Fort Zancudo is quickest), trace the whole coastline, then sweep the land in strips. The ocean counts too, up to where the water turns deep blue. It pops at around 95% revealed. Tip: Do it once you have a pilot with good Flying stats. Check the pause-menu map for grey patches if it doesn't pop.

Multi-Disciplined

Details

Bronze — Attain a gold medal in all applicable hobbies and pastimes. Get one gold medal in each of six activity types: Shooting Range, Flight School, Off-Road Race, Sea Race, Street Race and Triathlon. You don't need gold in every event, just one per type. Tip: The Street Race gold comes from Hao's Shift Work mission (Franklin, 20:00–05:00). The Shooting Range is usually the hardest: aim for the yellow centres and don't waste time between targets. The first Flight School lesson has an easy gold.

From Beyond the Stars

Details

Bronze — Collect and return all spaceship parts. Meet Omega as Franklin (the Far Out mission near Sandy Shores, open after Fame or Shame), then find all 50 spaceship parts. They glow and hum when you're close. Return to Omega for The Final Frontier and the trophy. Tip: Only Franklin can collect them. A few need a helicopter. Full per-part list.

A Mystery, Solved

Details

Bronze — Solve the mystery of Leonora Johnson. Find all 50 letter scraps (any character). The pieces rebuild a confession. Then go to the green question mark as Franklin for A Starlet in Vinewood and deal with the killer. The trophy pops at the end of that mission, not when you grab the 50th scrap. Tip: Full per-scrap list.

Waste Management

Details

Bronze — Purchase the old dock and collect all nuclear waste. Buy the Sonar Collections Dock in Paleto Bay ($250,000). A submarine appears at the dock with the Trackify radar. Find all 30 barrels on the sea floor. Each barrel pays $23,000 plus a bonus at the end, so it pays for itself. Tip: Watch your depth: the sub implodes below crush depth, and a few barrels sit close to it. Full per-barrel list.

Show Off

Details

Bronze — Complete all Stunt Jumps. Land all 50 stunt jumps. You have to hit the ramp, go through the air in the right direction and land on your wheels in the right zone. The game plays a slow-motion camera when you've got it right. Tip: A fast motorbike (Bati 801 or Akuma) does almost all of them. Quick-save before each jump. Full per-jump list.

Close Shave

Details

Bronze — Complete all Under the Bridge and Knife Flight challenges. Fly under all 50 bridges and complete all 15 Knife Flights (flying sideways between two buildings). Touching the bridge or the ground doesn't count. Tip: A Maverick helicopter is best for the bridges, and a stunt plane (or a jet with the landing gear down to slow it) for the knife flights. All's Fare in Love and War

Details

Bronze — Purchase Downtown Cab Co. and complete a private fare. After Nervous Ron properties go on sale. As Franklin, buy Downtown Cab Co. ($200,000, East Vinewood). Wait for Raul to phone you about a private fare, pick the VIP up and drop them off. Normal taxi fares don't count. Tip: You don't need a taxi for the private fare. Any car works once Raul has called.

TP Industries Arms Race

Details

Bronze — Purchase McKenzie Field Hangar and win the arms race. As Trevor, buy McKenzie Field Hangar in Grapeseed ($150,000, after Nervous Ron) and finish all 10 trafficking missions for Oscar: 5 by air (Cuban 800) and 5 by land (Dune Buggy). Tip: After each pair of runs, save and reload to respawn at the hangar with the next two ready. Doing the Flight School first makes the air drops and landings much easier. Missable if Trevor dies, so pick Option C at the end. Missable.

Red Mist

Details

Bronze — Complete all Rampages. As Trevor, after Trevor Philips Industries, complete all 5 Rampages. Each one unlocks the next: Rednecks (Sandy Shores), Vagos (La Mesa), Ballas (Chamberlain Hills), Military (Great Chaparral) and Hipsters (Mirror Park). Tip: Infinite ammo and grenades are provided. Trevor's Red Mist ability recharges fast here, so use it constantly. Each Rampage also has a gold medal. Missable if Trevor dies. Missable.

Kifflom!

Details

Silver — Complete your path to enlightenment... or not. Finish the Epsilon Program line as Michael. Take the test on epsilonprogram.com, then complete nine missions, which involve donations ($500, $5,000, $10,000), delivering five specific cars, buying the $25,000 robes and wearing them for 10 days, and walking 5 miles in the desert. It ends with Unknowing the Truth. Tip: You need about $90,500 as Michael, but you can walk off with $2.1 million at the end by taking the money. New markers can take a while to appear, so sleep in a safehouse to move time on. Full step list on our missables page. Missable if Michael dies. Missable.

Three Man Army

Details

Bronze — Survive 3 minutes on at least a 3 star Wanted Level with all three characters together off mission. After Trevor is playable, call Michael and Franklin as one character, pick them both up in a four-door car, and drive onto the airport runway. That gives you three stars straight away. Keep driving around the airfield for 3 minutes without losing the cops. Tip: Bulletproof tyres from Los Santos Customs help a lot. Do it before the last few story missions, when the characters stop answering calls. Missable.

Out of Your Depth

Details

Bronze — You're gonna need a bigger boat... Get killed by a shark. Take a boat or Seashark into deep water (the minimap turns dark blue), jump in and wait. A red dot on the radar is a shark. It can take a few minutes, but it'll find you. Tip: It also counts if the shark wrecks your boat. Easy to do early.

Altruist Acolyte

Details

Bronze — Deliver an unsuspecting victim to the Altruist Cult. As Trevor, pick up a hitchhiker from a random event (there are four, e.g. at the southern foot of Mount Chiliad) and, instead of their destination, drive them to the Altruist Cult camp (the ‘A’ that appears on the west side of Mount Chiliad). Tip: Only Trevor can do it. If you drop every hitchhiker at their destination instead, you lose the chances. Keep a save. Missable.

A Lot of Cheddar

Details

Bronze — Spend a total of $200 million across all three characters. Spend $200 million in total across all three characters. The easy way: after the story you'll have tens of millions each. Buy and immediately sell stock on the in-game stock market. Buying counts as spending, and selling straight away loses almost nothing. Tip: Save Lester's last four assassinations for after The Big Score and play the stock market around them to turn your heist money into hundreds of millions. See the stock plan on our missables page. Trading Pure Alpha

Details

Bronze — Make a profit over your total investments in the stock market. Sell one stock for a profit. The guaranteed way is Lester's assassinations: buy the stock that rises before (or after) the hit, wait, and sell in the green. Tip: Some random events reward you with shares. Selling those counts as profit too.

Pimp My Sidearm

Details

Bronze — Fully mod a weapon. Buy every attachment for one weapon at Ammu-Nation. The pistol is cheapest (~$3,400 for the extended clip, flashlight, suppressor and tints). Tip: Available as soon as you have a little money, right after Complications.

Wanted: Alive or Alive

Details

Bronze — Deliver a bail bond target alive. After Mr. Philips, meet Maude in Grapeseed as Trevor (Special Bonds). She emails you four bail-bond targets. Catch one, hurt but don't kill them (a stun gun is perfect), let them get in your car and drive them back to Maude. Tip: Four targets, so four chances, but only if you don't kill them all. Delivering alive also pays more. Missable.

Los Santos Customs

Details

Bronze — Fully mod a vehicle. Buy every upgrade category for one car at Los Santos Customs (available after Father/Son). Pick a car with few mod options: the Weeny Issi ($18,000 online) is the classic cheap choice. Tip: The trophy pops when you drive out of the shop, not inside. Full mod list on our missables page.

A New Perspective

Details

Bronze — You played GTA V in first person mode for 15 hours. Spend a cumulative 15 hours in first-person view (press the touchpad to switch camera). Story Mode and GTA Online both count. Tip: Easiest to leave on while grinding: collectible runs, the Online rank grind or Coyote Cross Country.

Off the Plane

Details

Bronze — GTA Online: Complete the Introduction. Create your character, and Lamar picks you up from the airport. It pops when you step out of his car.

Three-Bit Gangster

Details

Bronze — GTA Online: Reach Rank 25. Reach rank 25 (127,100 RP). It comes naturally on the way to rank 100.

Making Moves

Silver — GTA Online: Reach Rank 50. Reach rank 50 (448,000 RP).

Above the Law

Details

Gold — GTA Online: Reach Rank 100. Reach rank 100 (1,583,380 RP). It's the longest part of the platinum, easily 100+ hours. Every activity gives RP: missions, races, heists, contact jobs. Tip: Play missions on Hard for 1.5x RP, in a team (+20%) and with crew members (+10%). Watch for weekly double-RP events. If you transfer a PS4 character, the rank trophies pop the next time you rank up.

Numero Uno

Details

Bronze — GTA Online: Obtain first place in all competitive game types. Win at least once in each of 15 modes: Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Air Race, Land Race (Standard, GTA, Rally), Sea Race, Arm Wrestling, Darts, Golf, Tennis, Shooting Range, Parachuting, plus a Gang Attack and all 10 waves of Survival. Tip: Boost most of them with one friend in an invite-only session. Rally and Team Deathmatch need four players. Track progress under Stats → Awards → Victory. Earliest possible at rank 18 (Gang Attacks).

The Midnight Club

Details

Bronze — GTA Online: Use custom vehicles to win 5 races. Win 5 races in your own insured, customised car. Host a Land Race with Custom Vehicles: On and the class set to your car's class. At least one other player must take part. Tip: Boost it with a friend on a short one-lap track such as Criminal Records, then use ‘Replay’.

Unnatural Selection

Details

Bronze — GTA Online: Complete all 10 waves of a Survival. Finish all 10 waves of any Survival (unlocked around rank 15). The Boneyard map is the classic choice: camp in the narrow gap between the grey portacabin and the red wall on your right at the start. Tip: Stock up on ammo and armour first. Calling in Merryweather's backup helicopter during the Survival also unlocks Dialling Digits.

Backseat Driver

Details

Bronze — GTA Online: Direct a driver to 1st place as co-driver in Rally Mode. Host a Land Race in Rally mode with four players, choose Co-Driver as your role, and win. Tip: On the circular Criminal Records track your driver hardly needs directions.

Run Like The Wind

Details

Bronze — GTA Online: Survive with a Bounty on your head. Survive a full in-game day (about 48 real minutes) with a bounty on you. From rank 10 a friend can set one through Lester ($2,000). Keep moving, because sitting in an apartment pauses the timer. Tip: Stealing expensive NPC cars in a solo session sometimes gets an NPC bounty placed on you.

Clean Sweep

Details

Bronze — GTA Online: Finish a Gang Attack without dying and kill at least 10 enemies. Gang Attacks unlock at rank 18 (red circles on the minimap). Clear one with at least 10 kills and no deaths. Tip: Do it solo so nobody steals kills. Buy armour first and fight from the edge of the circle.

Decorated

Details

Silver — GTA Online: Earn 30 Platinum Awards. Earn 30 platinum awards. Many are one-offs or quick to boost with a friend: No Claims Bonus (drive 30 minutes without crashing), Hairy Encounters (25 haircuts), Snapper Dresser (25 outfits), Checking Out (darts), Straight Sets and Out Of Five (tennis), Road Rage, Granny and more. Tip: Check Stats → Awards for progress. Short one-lap races on Criminal Records knock out several racing awards at once.

Stick Up Kid

Details

Bronze — GTA Online: Hold up all 20 Stores. Rob all 20 stores marked on the map. Aim at the cashier until he throws you the bag. It counts once you've picked up the bag, even if you then die. Tip: Do it in a solo session so other players can't rob stores (they go on cooldown) or rob you. Robbed stores get a green tick on the map.

Enjoy Your Stay

Details

Bronze — GTA Online: Participate in everything Los Santos has to offer. Do each once: buy a private dance at the strip club, buy clothes, get a haircut, get a tattoo, arm wrestle, hold up a store, play darts, golf, tennis and the shooting range. Tip: Most of these are cheap and quick in one evening.

Crew Cut

Details

Bronze — GTA Online: Complete a Job as a member of a Crew. Finish any Job (mission, race, anything) with another member of your Crew. Create or join a crew through the Rockstar Social Club.

Full Refund

Details

Bronze — GTA Online: Kill the thief that mugged you. Get a mugger sent after you (a rank-50+ friend can call Lamar → ‘Send Mugger’), then chase him down and kill him to get your money back. Tip: Carry a little cash so there's something to steal.

Dialling Digits

Details

Bronze — GTA Online: Call for a Backup Helicopter for the first time. From rank 20, call Merryweather from your contacts and order a Backup Helicopter ($5,000). It pops when the Buzzard arrives.

American Dream

Details

Bronze — GTA Online: Own an Apartment, Garage and an Insured Vehicle Own all three at once. Your first insured car comes free in the tutorial. Buy an apartment or house with a garage (rank 5+) from the Dynasty 8 website on your phone. Tip: Buying from the ‘For Sale’ signs in the world doesn't count. Use the website.
