The Review

Survival crafting, on the sands of Arrakis

Funcom knows survival sandboxes (Conan Exiles) and it knows shared worlds, and Dune: Awakening pours both into the most evocative setting it could pick. You crash on Arrakis with nothing, and the whole fantasy of Dune becomes your daily routine: craft a stillsuit so the desert doesn't kill you, ration every drop of water, read the sand for the tell-tale ripple of a sandworm, and slowly claw your way from scavenger to a power broker in the Landsraad. It plays as a third-person survival RPG you can run solo or in co-op, layered with class trainings โ€” Mentat, Swordmaster, Bene Gesserit and more โ€” that let you build the operative you want.

The world is the draw. Hagga Basin is a hand-crafted region of settlements, wrecks and hostile camps; beyond it the Deep Desert is a rolling endgame expanse where the biggest worms and the best loot live. Spice harvesting is a genuine risk-reward loop โ€” the more you strip a spice field, the louder you ring the dinner bell for Shai-Hulud โ€” and base-building, vehicle crafting (from the humble Sandbike to the Ornithopter) and the constant push-and-pull of heat, thirst and shelter keep the survival fantasy honest.

It's an MMO, so expect a grind, some server-era rough edges and systems that reward patience over reflexes. But it's also a smart, atmospheric translation of Herbert's world โ€” and crucially Funcom listened, making the Deep Desert endgame fully playable in PvE so solo and co-op players aren't forced into open-world PvP. For Dune fans and survival-crafters alike, Arrakis is a place worth getting stranded on.

Platinum Roadmap

The road to The Awakened

A low-stress 4/10 platinum โ€” the wall is time, not skill, and no PvP is required. Push the story to open the map, do the trainings and contracts as you play, then settle in for the grind trophies (six 500-enemy kills, 10,000 of every resource, and 50,000 ml each of dew water and blood).

1Complete the story & trials. Push all three story acts, awaken Prescience (Fourth Trial of Aql), join a great House and finish the Shield Wall questline to open the Deep Desert. This unlocks the regions, schematics and enemy zones everything else needs โ€” and watch the vision choice for Lisan al-Gaib (decline the offer).
2Trainings, contracts & exploration. Complete all five class trainings, clear every contract chain (this ranks up your faction for House Operator), visit the settlements, scale the landmarks and survey all of Hagga Basin.
3Build, craft & survive. Construct every vehicle and all machinery tiers, decorate a base, and knock out the survival feats โ€” the sandworm Staring Contest, spice, cooking and the water loops.
4Grind the totals & platinum. The real time sink: the six 500-kill enemy trophies, 10,000 of every mined resource, 50,000 ml of dew water and of blood, plus 100 repairs/recycles. Finish those and The Awakened pops. Co-op speeds the farms.
PvP is not required. The Deep Desert endgame is fully PvE-viable, so every trophy can be earned solo or in co-op. The only thing to watch is the Lisan al-Gaib vision choice โ€” decline the offer.

FAQ

Dune: Awakening platinum โ€” quick answers

How long does the Dune: Awakening platinum take?
Around 60–90 hours. The story is a fraction of that โ€” the bulk is the grind trophies: six 500-enemy kills, mining 10,000 of every resource, and 50,000 ml each of dew-reaped water and exsanguinated blood. Co-op speeds the farms.
Is it hard to platinum?
No โ€” about a 4/10. It's a survival-MMO grind, so the challenge is time and consistency rather than difficulty. The tougher moments are the sandworm Staring Contest and the Sardaukar Captain fight.
Do I need PvP or online play?
No PvP is required. Funcom made the Deep Desert endgame fully PvE-viable, so every trophy can be earned solo or in co-op against the environment. Co-op is optional but speeds the grinds.
Are there missable trophies?
Essentially no โ€” it all plays out on one character at your own pace. The one thing to watch is the Lisan al-Gaib vision choice: decline the offer from the vision inside the sandworm.
What's the most time-consuming trophy?
The six 500-kill enemy trophies (Scavengers, Kirab, Slavers, Deserters, Sandflies, Maas Kharet) and Miner (10,000 of every resource type) are the biggest sinks. See our Combat & Training guide for the best farm spots.
