What you'll unlock here
Pathways of the Mind (silver) β discover all 14 Nightmare Doors.
Adamantium Dreams (bronze) β earn a top (Adamantium) rating on any one trial.
Repressed Memories (gold, secret) β clear the hidden 15th trial and follow the memory.
The basics
What the Nightmare Trials actually are
Scattered through the campaign are 14 Nightmare Doors β you'll spot them by the tangle of purple roots creeping across the ground that leads you straight to each one. Stepping through a door drops Logan into a Nightmare Trial: a self-contained combat challenge that plays out inside his fractured memories, scored on how well you fight.
Every trial you unlock gets a figurine on the shelf back at the Nightmare Cabin (your post-story hub). From the Cabin you can replay any trial at will to chase a better rating β so nothing here is missable, and you never have to nail a trial on the first try.
Trials matter for three reasons: they're worth two trophies directly (a top rating + the secret one), finding their doors gives a third (Pathways of the Mind), and each one also feeds your Adaptation level β which is what powers Secondary Mutations.
Ratings
Adamantium Dreams β the easy top rating
Each trial is graded, with Adamantium as the highest tier. You only need one Adamantium rating on any single trial for the trophy β not on all of them.
1Turn the difficulty down for the attempt. On the βThe Manβ difficulty Logan is effectively invulnerable, so you can focus entirely on chaining kills and combos instead of surviving. You can switch difficulty freely from the menu and it doesn't lock any trophies.
2Pick a short, simple trial you're comfortable with. An early one you've already cleared is ideal β you know the layout and the enemy waves, so you can play cleanly for score.
3Play aggressively for a high combat score. Keep your Rage up, use Berserker when it's charged, mix in Helix Claws and Tornado Spin for group kills, and avoid long lulls. With no death pressure, an Adamantium rating is very achievable β replay from the Cabin if the first run falls short.
Tip: because you can replay trials endlessly and can't die on βThe Manβ, this trophy is essentially free β treat it as a formality whenever you're topping up cumulative combat feats (parries, Helix and Tornado kills) in the trials anyway.
Discovery
Pathways of the Mind β all 14 doors
This unlocks once you've discovered all 14 Nightmare Doors. Most appear on your critical path β the purple roots are impossible to miss once you know to look for them β and the second door you find (in the Canada chapter) is the one that unlocks Mission Select at the Nightmare Cabin, so any door you walk past can be revisited later.
We list the exact location of every door, mission by mission, alongside the crates and whisky on the collectibles page:
Why finish all 14: beyond the trophy, clearing every door (to at least a bronze rating) is the prerequisite for the secret 15th trial below β and the doors, together with the 20 Whisky Bottles, push your Adaptation to level 10 for Secondary Mutations (you need roughly 73.5%, not a full 100%).
The secret trophy
Repressed Memories β the hidden 15th trial
This is the platinum's only secret trophy, and the one step people miss. It's a post-game job: don't go looking for it until you've wrapped the story and worked through the trials.
Step by step
1Find all 14 Nightmare Doors and earn at least a bronze rating in every one. A hidden slot only opens once all fourteen trials are cleared, so this is the gate β mop up any doors and any unrated trials first (see the door locations above).
2Check the Nightmare Cabin shelf. With all 14 done, a new figurine appears in the bottom-right of the trophy/figurine shelf β this is the secret 15th trial. Interact with it to start.
3Clear the 15th trial. A bronze rating is enough β you don't need Adamantium here. If it gives you trouble, drop to βThe Manβ difficulty so you can't die and simply finish it.
4Leave the Cabin and follow the scent trail. This is the part everyone forgets: after the trial, step outside the Nightmare Cabin and use Logan's scent tracking to follow the trail it reveals. It leads to a final memory β watch it play out and Repressed Memories pops.
Don't stop at the trial. Clearing the 15th trial alone does not award the trophy β you must go outside and follow the scent to trigger the memory afterwards. If the trophy hasn't unlocked, that outdoor scent trail is the step you're missing.
For most players this is the very last thing before the platinum, since it requires all doors, all trials and the post-game Cabin β clean up crates, whisky and cumulative feats around it and I'm The Best There Isβ¦ will drop right after.
FAQ
Nightmare Trials β quick answers
Do I need Adamantium on every trial?
No. Adamantium Dreams only needs one Adamantium rating on any single trial. For the secret trophy you just need at least a bronze in all 14 (plus the 15th).
Are the Nightmare Trials or doors missable?
No. Mission Select unlocks at the Nightmare Cabin early in the story, and trials can be replayed from the Cabin any time, so everything here can be finished after the credits.
Why won't Repressed Memories unlock after I beat the 15th trial?
Because clearing the trial is only half of it. Leave the Nightmare Cabin and follow the scent trail outside to trigger the final memory β the trophy pops after that cutscene, not after the trial itself.
How do the trials help Secondary Mutations?
Clearing Nightmare Doors raises your Adaptation level, as do the 20 Whisky Bottles. Reaching Adaptation 10 (about 73.5%) earns Secondary Mutations, so doing the trials naturally carries you most of the way there.
