Combat & Naval Challenges

Sixteen "do a specific thing once" trophies — including the game's only Gold — split between on-foot combat tricks and naval manoeuvres. None are missable and none are hard on their own; most just need you to deliberately engineer the situation. Knock them out whenever you pass their trigger during the map sweep.

⚔️ Resynced's reworked combat helps you here. The faster parries, cleaner counter windows and reworked pistol chaining make the parry/takedown trophies noticeably easier than in the 2013 original — several will pop inside a single busy restricted-zone brawl.

Set-up tips before you start farming

The Only Gold

Last To Leave

GoldFull guideCollapse

Take a seat on a burning ship.

TypeGold
KindInteraction
RarityUltra rare

What it asks

The platinum's only Gold, and a total joke trophy: sit down on a chair aboard an enemy ship while it's on fire. It's ultra-rare purely because so few players think to do it — mechanically it's trivial once you know.

How to earn it — step by step

  1. Attack any medium enemy ship (a schooner or brig is easiest) and set it alight — fire barrels, or just pound it with regular shot until sections catch fire.
  2. Bring it to the boarding threshold and grapple across while it's still burning (don't fully destroy it — you need the deck intact).
  3. Clear or ignore the crew, find a sittable chair or bench on the deck (there's usually one near the helm or cabin), and use the sit prompt.
  4. The Gold pops the moment Edward sits. Do it quickly — the ship will sink if the fire spreads too far.
If you can't find a chair, disengage, pick a different ship class and try again — some smaller vessels have no seat. A brig's quarterdeck is the reliable spot.
On-Foot Combat

Silence, Fool!

SilverFull guideCollapse

Kill a guard ringing a bell.

TypeSilver
KindStealth

What it asks

In restricted zones, a spotted guard will sprint to an alarm bell to call reinforcements. Kill him while he's actively ringing it (not before he reaches it, not after he's done).

How to earn it

  1. Find a bell tower inside a restricted area (forts and city districts have them — they're marked with a bell icon).
  2. Deliberately let a nearby guard spot you so he runs for the bell.
  3. As he grabs the rope and starts ringing, throw a knife or catch him with a ranged/lunging kill mid-ring. Timing the throw the instant he starts is the trick.
Position yourself with a clear throwing line to the bell before alerting him — if you have to chase, he'll finish ringing first and you'll have to reset.

Articles Of Agreement

SilverFull guideCollapse

Ensure the survival of all pirates in a street fight.

TypeSilver
EventStreet fight

What it asks

Street-fight events (a naval-blue "brawl" icon in ports) pit a band of friendly pirates against soldiers. Win with every friendly pirate still alive.

How to earn it

  1. Find a pirate street-brawl in a town and join in.
  2. Do the killing yourself, fast. The enemies split their attention, so aggressively drop soldiers before they can whittle your allies down.
  3. If an allied pirate is flashing low, peel the attacker off him immediately — a single counter-kill usually saves him. Finish the wave with all pirates standing.
If a pirate dies, abandon the attempt and walk away — the event resets when you return, so you can retry cleanly.

The Hangman

BronzeFull guideCollapse

Kill 10 enemies by hanging them with the rope dart.

TypeBronze
ToolRope dart
Count10 (cumulative)

What it asks

The rope dart strings enemies up when you attack from above. Get 10 hanging kills total — they carry over between fights, so no need to do them all at once.

How to earn it

  1. Perch on a beam, tree branch or ledge directly above a guard and use the rope-dart hang attack (not a normal air assassination).
  2. City rooftops with patrols passing under archways and gallows are perfect. Rack up 10 across your travels.

Caught 'Em All

BronzeFull guideCollapse

Catch five enemies within a single smoke bomb.

TypeBronze
ToolSmoke bomb
Count5 at once

What it asks

Drop one smoke bomb so it engulfs at least five enemies (they cough and stagger inside the cloud). It counts catching them, not killing.

How to earn it

  1. Let a group surround you — bait five or more into a tight ring around you.
  2. Drop the smoke bomb at your own feet so everyone in melee range is caught. A restricted-zone mob makes this a formality.

Gun-kata

BronzeFull guideCollapse

Kill four enemies in a row with pistols within five seconds.

TypeBronze
ToolFour pistols
Window5 seconds

What it asks

Edward can carry four pistols. Fire all four to kill four enemies within five seconds — a rapid execution chain. One of the tighter timing trophies.

How to earn it

  1. Buy all four pistol holsters and load every slot.
  2. Soften four guards in melee first so each is a one-shot kill, line them up, then chain the four pistol shots as fast as you can tap.
The reworked combat lets you queue pistol targets — pre-injuring the enemies is the difference between an easy pop and repeatedly running out of the 5-second window.

Backs To The Wall

BronzeFull guideCollapse

Kill an enemy with a wall takedown.

TypeBronze
KindEnvironmental

What it asks

Perform a wall takedown — the special finisher available when an enemy is backed against a wall or solid object.

How to earn it

  1. Fight near a wall and manoeuvre a guard against it.
  2. When the environmental-kill prompt appears, trigger it. Pops on the first one — trivial in any alley.

Let Me Explain

BronzeFull guideCollapse

After a perfect parry, perform four takedowns.

TypeBronze
ComboParry → 4 kills

What it asks

Land a perfect parry, then chain four takedown/counter kills off the opening it creates.

How to earn it

  1. Wait for a guard to attack and counter the instant his blade lands — the reworked window is forgiving.
  2. Immediately chain counter-kills / takedowns on the surrounding guards. A crowd of 5+ makes hitting four in the sequence easy.

Double Tap

BronzeFull guideCollapse

Parry two Ocelot attacks in rapid succession.

TypeBronze
EnemyOcelot brute

What it asks

The heavy "Ocelot" brutes telegraph big overhead attacks. Perfect-parry two of their strikes in a row.

How to earn it

  1. Find an Ocelot / captain-type brute (common in forts and larger patrols).
  2. Bait its heavy swings and counter two consecutive attacks — don't attack in between, just parry, parry.
Naval Manoeuvres

Return The Favor

BronzeFull guideCollapse

Dash-ram a ramming Brig.

TypeBronze
EnemyBrig
MoveDash + ram

What it asks

When an enemy Brig charges to ram you, counter its charge with your own dash-ram, bow-to-bow.

How to earn it

  1. Engage a Brig (mid-size warship) and wait for it to line up a ramming run — it speeds straight at you.
  2. Boost (dash) into it head-on so your bows meet. Beating its charge with your ram pops the Bronze.

Old Ironsides

BronzeFull guideCollapse

Perform 3 perfect braces.

TypeBronze
MovePerfect brace ×3

What it asks

Bracing the instant an enemy broadside lands reduces the damage to almost nothing — a "perfect brace". Nail three (cumulative).

How to earn it

  1. In any naval fight, watch for an enemy's incoming broadside (they flash a warning).
  2. Hit brace at the last moment as the shots strike — a "Perfect Brace" flashes up. Do it in three separate volleys, across any fights.

Strike The Colors

BronzeFull guideCollapse

Board a Lead Convoy ship.

TypeBronze
TargetConvoy leader

What it asks

Trade convoys (a group of ships travelling together) have a marked lead ship. Damage it to the boarding threshold and board it.

How to earn it

  1. Attack a convoy and focus fire the flagged lead vessel rather than the escorts.
  2. When its hull is low and the Board prompt appears, grapple across and take it — pops on boarding, and nets great cargo too.

Unsinkable

BronzeFull guideCollapse

Survive a rogue wave taken from the side.

TypeBronze
HazardRogue wave

What it asks

In storms, giant rogue waves sweep across the sea. Survive one that hits your Jackdaw side-on — the angle that normally capsizes you.

How to earn it

  1. Sail into a storm with rogue waves (dark skies, towering swells).
  2. Deliberately turn broadside to an incoming wave and ride it out without sinking. Surviving the side-on hit pops it.
Take this with a couple of hull-armour upgrades already bought — bone-stock, a side-on rogue wave can genuinely sink you and force a retry.

Hunter Hunted

BronzeFull guideCollapse

Defeat a Pirate Hunter at maximum Wanted Level.

TypeBronze
TriggerMax Wanted

What it asks

Attacking ships and forts raises your Wanted Level; at maximum, Pirate Hunter squadrons hunt you down. Sink one while fully wanted.

How to earn it

  1. Raid ships/forts until the Wanted meter is maxed (top of screen) and hunter ships spawn to chase you.
  2. Turn and fight — sink one of the pursuing hunters before you lower your notoriety (don't bribe/tear down wanted posters first). Pops on the kill.

Blow The Man Down

BronzeFull guideCollapse

Shoot down all the hanging bodies in Long Bay.

TypeBronze
WhereLong Bay

What it asks

A grim location-specific one — at Long Bay, executed bodies hang from gallows and trees. Shoot every rope so they all drop.

How to earn it

  1. Sail to Long Bay and look up around the settlement for the hanging bodies.
  2. Use your pistol to shoot each rope in turn. Sweep the whole area — miss one and the trophy won't pop, so circle back and recount.

Overdesign IV

BronzeFull guideCollapse

Kick a berserk enemy caught in smoke off a ship.

TypeBronze
ComboBerserk + smoke + kick

What it asks

The most elaborate combat trophy — a three-part combo during a ship boarding: hit an enemy with a berserk dart, catch him in a smoke bomb, then kick him overboard.

How to earn it

  1. During a boarding, pick an enemy standing near the deck's edge / railing.
  2. Berserk-dart him, then drop a smoke bomb on him, then use the kick/shove to send him off the side. All three conditions must apply to the same enemy in one go.
Stock berserk darts and smoke bombs beforehand and choose a target already at the rail — chasing one to the edge while the berserk/smoke timers tick is what makes people fail this.
