The PS5's first true showcase

Rift Apart was the game that finally showed what the PS5 could do — snapping you between entire worlds with no loading at all, wrapped in some of the best-looking, most joyful action on the console. It's classic Ratchet, sharper and shinier than ever, and a genuine delight from start to finish.

The dimensional rifts are the headline — mid-combat, you'll yank yourself across the arena or drop into a whole new planet in the blink of an eye, all powered by that famous SSD. But the real star is Rivet, a superb new Lombax lead who shares the campaign with Ratchet and gives the story real heart. Around them is the series' trademark arsenal: gleefully creative, chaotic weapons that grow more absurd and more satisfying the more you upgrade them.

Familiar, but flawless

If there's a knock, it's that Rift Apart doesn't reinvent the formula — it's a fairly short, gentle adventure that plays it classic rather than bold, and there's little real challenge outside the hardest difficulty. But as a showcase of craft, polish and pure fun, it's close to untouchable. And it's free on PS Plus Extra with a lovely, low-effort platinum to boot.

One of the best-looking, most effortlessly enjoyable games on PS5 — and a ~12-hour platinum that's basically a victory lap through gorgeous worlds.

Missable

★ Quick, easy and stress-free. No difficulty trophies — play on any setting. The only "missable", Extinction Event (kill 5 Grunthors), is fully farmable by re-killing the first Grunthor on Sargasso, so nothing is truly lost. You'll need to briefly start Challenge Mode (New Game+) to buy the final two weapons for Fully Stacked — collectibles and weapon progress carry over, so it only takes a few minutes.

Step-by-Step Roadmap

Step 1

Play the story & grab collectibles

Enjoy the campaign on any difficulty. As you go, pick up CraiggerBears, Gold Bolts, Spybots, Zurpstones, Blizon Crystals and armour, and clear the Glitch Challenges. Most collectibles can also be cleaned up freely after the story.

Step 2

Collectible clean-up

Return to each planet for anything missed — all 9 CraiggerBears (UnBEARably Awesome), 5 Gold Bolts, 10 Spybots (Aim to Misbehave → the RYNO), 60 Zurpstones, 29/30 Blizon Crystals and the rest.

Step 3

Weapons & combat challenges

Level a weapon to 5, fully upgrade one, fill a weapon wheel, and knock out the combat challenges (headshots, Ricochet, Void Reactor, etc.). Farm Extinction Event on Sargasso if needed.

Step 4

Challenge Mode → platinum

Start Challenge Mode and use your carried-over bolts to buy the final two weapons for Fully Stacked. That last purchase pops Masters of the Multiverse — the platinum.
