Spider-Man 2 is Insomniac operating at the very top of its game — a bigger, faster, more spectacular sequel that hands you two Spider-Men, a symbiote power fantasy, and the single best traversal system on PS5. If the first two games hooked you, this is more of everything you loved.

The headline is movement. Web-swinging has never felt this fluid, and the new Web Wings turn the expanded map — now including Brooklyn and Queens — into a glorious gliding playground. Switching between Peter Parker and Miles Morales gives you two distinct kits, and the symbiote and bio-electric abilities make combat a stylish, chainable spectacle. It's a PS5 technical showcase, from the near-instant swaps to the set-pieces that fling the whole city around you.

Where it plays it safe

For all its spectacle, the story is a slightly safer, more predictable ride than the studio's best, and some side content leans familiar — clear-this-nest, complete-this-request busywork you'll recognise from the earlier games. It's a refinement rather than a reinvention. But when the core loop is this good, that's a small complaint about a superb game.
