Our Verdict

Mafia: Definitive Edition is that rare remake that respects what made the original special while rebuilding it completely. Lost Heaven is a gorgeous, moody slice of 1930s America, the story of Tommy Angelo's rise and fall is still one of the best-told crime arcs in games, and the deliberate, weighty gunplay and driving suit the period perfectly. It's linear and old-fashioned by design — this is a story you play, not a sandbox you live in — but as a piece of craft it's superb, and the new native PS5 version at 60fps is the definitive way to play it.

The Original Gangster — Full Roadmap

A fair platinum with one serious hurdle. Nothing is missable — Chapter Select and Free Ride let you clean up anything — so the time goes into the 172 collectibles and the run that really counts: a full campaign on Classic difficulty.

Missable
🎩 Two things decide this platinum. First, Made Man needs a full Classic run start to finish without ever changing difficulty — and a Chapter Select playthrough will not count, so it must be a fresh save. Second, the 172 collectibles: nothing is missable, but don't forget the 5 post cards, which have no trophy of their own yet still count toward the full-collection gold.

Step-by-Step Roadmap

Step 1

Play once on Easy (8–10h)

Enjoy the story on Easy and grab collectibles as you go — especially the ones inside mission interiors (cigarette cards and magazines love a desk or shelf). Win the Chapter 5 race for Supercharged while the pressure's low. This run gives you all 20 chapter trophies and A Life of Crime.

Step 2

Free Ride cleanup (~5h)

Switch to Free Ride and sweep the map: all 50 Mystery Foxes, the remaining magazines, the 5 hidden cars and the 5 post cards. Park 30 different vehicles in the garage along the way for Motor Museum, and knock out the police, lockpicking and stunt trophies here too.

Step 3

Finish the collection

With everything logged, The Whole Story (gold) pops. Double-check post cards and hidden cars — they're the two sets that most often hold people up.

Step 4

The Classic run (~20h)

Start a fresh save on Classic and play it end to end without touching the difficulty. Enemies hit hard, ammo is tight and the Chapter 5 race is genuinely nasty. Take cover seriously, aim for the head, and drive conservatively.

Step 5

Platinum

When the Classic run ends, Made Man lands and The Original Gangster follows right behind it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to platinum Mafia: Definitive Edition?
Around 30–40 hours. Roughly 8–10 hours for a first Easy playthrough, about 5 hours of Free Ride collectible cleanup, and another 20 or so for the mandatory Classic difficulty run.
How hard is the Mafia: Definitive Edition platinum?
PIXELFORGE rates it 6.5 / 10. Nothing is missable and most of the list is relaxed, but Made Man — the full Classic difficulty run — is a genuine step up, and the Chapter 5 race on Classic is the single most replayed moment in the game.
Are there missable trophies?
No. Chapter Select and Free Ride let you go back for anything, including every collectible. The only hard rule is that the Classic run must be a fresh, unbroken playthrough.
Do difficulty trophies stack?
Yes — beating the game on Classic also awards the Easy/Medium/Hard trophy. But Classic must be played start to finish without changing difficulty, and a Chapter Select run doesn't count, so most players still do an easy first playthrough and a dedicated Classic run.
How many collectibles are there?
172 in total: 50 Mystery Foxes, 22 cigarette cards, 80 pulp magazines (four series of 20), 10 Gangsters Monthly comics, 5 post cards and 5 hidden cars. The post cards have no trophy of their own but still count toward the full-collection gold.
