Our Verdict
Mafia II remains the most atmospheric game in the series. Empire Bay is smaller and less interactive than a modern open world, but the period detail — the cars, the radio, the slow drift from 1945 into the 1950s — is unmatched, and Vito and Joe's friendship carries the whole thing. The remaster is a light touch (and in the Omertà Collection it's still the PS4 build), so expect a game of its era: linear missions, deliberate combat, and a city that's more a stage than a sandbox. As a crime story, though, it's a classic.
Platinum Trophy — Full Roadmap
A long but relaxed platinum. Nothing is missable — you can replay any chapter at will — so it's really two jobs: a full Hard playthrough for Tough Nut, and the 239 collectibles. Both DLCs add 10 trophies each on top.
Step-by-Step Roadmap
Play the story on Hard
Start on Hard so Tough Nut and Made Man come from one run. Grab Playboy magazines as you go — they're locked to individual chapters, so collecting in the moment saves a lot of replaying. Pick up the optional chapter objectives (The Professional, Mail Man, Wake Up Call, A Real Gentleman) while you're there.
Sweep the Wanted posters
With the story done, take a car and tour Empire Bay for all 189 Wanted posters. They're on walls, poles and fences out in the world, so this is one long driving session rather than mission work.
Replay chapters for missed Playboys
Check your collectible tracker and use chapter replay to pick up any of the 50 magazines you walked past. This is the step that catches most people out — plan for it.
City, car & combat trophies
Mop up the odds and ends: 125 mph, the 50-mile car, five stores in five minutes, ten minutes of police heat, 30 different vehicles, a maxed-out car and the melee/headshot counts.
Jimmy's Vendetta & Joe's Adventures
Finish with the two DLCs — 10 trophies each. Jimmy's is the grindier of the two (1,000 miles driven, 1,000 kills, a million points); Joe's is mostly level completions plus a few stunt-score challenges.
