The Review

A hidden gem that trusts you to find your own way

Hell Is Us is the kind of game PS Plus Extra exists for โ€” a striking, ambitious action-adventure from Rogue Factor that most people missed. You play Rรฉmi, a UN peacekeeper who returns to his homeland of Hadea, a country sealed off by civil war and haunted by an otherworldly Lymbic invasion. The hook: there is no map, no quest markers and no hand-holding. You navigate by landmarks, notes and your own memory, piecing the world together yourself.

Combat is deliberate and melee-forward, built around reading enemy tells, parrying, and using a versatile combat drone. The real star, though, is the investigation โ€” the world is stuffed with Mysteries, research items, Timeloops and Vaults that reward genuine curiosity. It's atmospheric, confident, and a little uneven, but there's nothing else quite like it in the catalogue.

As a platinum it's very reasonable โ€” 3/10, one playthrough, no difficulty trophies and nothing online. The catch is the 7 missable trophies: several are tied to Good Deeds and NPCs who disappear after story events, and a few gear trophies rely on finite upgrade resources. Follow a collectible route on your single run, keep the missables in mind, and it's a satisfying, unhurried platinum.

What we loved

  • Genuinely unique no-map exploration
  • Rich investigation and lore systems
  • Reasonable 3/10 platinum with one playthrough
  • A real hidden gem now free on Extra

What frustrated us

  • 7 missables โ€” several tied to disappearing NPCs
  • No hand-holding can mean backtracking
  • Combat is solid but not spectacular
  • The final 'clear every enemy' trophy takes patience
Platinum Roadmap

The road to Hero of Hadea

There are no difficulty trophies, so play comfortably. This is a one-playthrough platinum โ€” but because 7 trophies are missable (mostly Good Deeds and NPC conversations that lock after story beats), it pays to work off a collectible route and keep the missables list open. Do the story-wide cleanup after Act 3.

1Playthrough 1 โ€” explore thoroughly, missables first. As you play Acts 1โ€“3, prioritise Good Deeds, NPC conversations, Relics and gear upgrades before triggering the story events that lock them. Talk to every NPC you meet, complete every Good Deed you can, and don't blow your finite upgrade resources on consumables.
2Sweep collectibles as you go. Resolve Mysteries (46), do research on every item, close Timeloops (14), open the Vaults (6) and pick up Glyphs, Drone Modules, Relics and baseball caps. Most of these are not missable, but grabbing them on the way saves a lot of backtracking.
3Post-Act 3 cleanup. After finishing Act 3, reload and mop up the non-missable trophies โ€” remaining research, Mysteries, the Grade-5/Grade-4 gear trophies, and the big combat clears.
4The final grind โ†’ Platinum. Close all 14 Timeloops, then hunt down every remaining enemy in every area until each reads 'Threats: Clear' for Legend of the Phol. Tidy the last few and Hero of Hadea pops.
7 missable trophies โ€” plan around these. Man of the People (all 26 Good Deeds) and Antiquarian (all Relics) rely on Good Deeds, some of which lock when NPCs die or leave after story events. Lend an Ear (talk to all 21 NPCs) and Ever After (get all NPCs to Lake Cynon) can be failed by progressing too far โ€” e.g. some NPCs vanish after Pathem Abbey. And Good Vibrations, Accessorizing and To the Teeth need weapon/gear upgrades built from finite Lymbic Shards, so don't waste upgrade resources. When in doubt, talk to everyone and back up a save before big story beats.
Every Trophy

All 41 trophies โ€” explained

Grouped by type, each with how to unlock it. Story trophies are unmissable. The seven flagged below are the ones to plan for โ€” mostly Good Deeds and NPC conversations that lock after story events, plus a few finite-resource gear trophies.

Story 3 trophies

One per Act โ€” entirely unmissable on a full playthrough.

So It Begins

Details
Complete Act 1 by placing the Keystone of Grief in the Lymbic Forge. Pure story progression — can't be missed.

Emotional Baggage

Details
Complete Act 2 by placing the remaining three Keystones in the Lymbic Forge. Story progression, unmissable.

Redemption

Details
Complete Act 3 โ€” the finale.
Good Deeds & Mysteries 5 trophies

Good Deeds are side favours you turn in to NPCs; Mysteries are the world's puzzles. Two of these are missable because NPCs can leave or die after story beats.

Good Samaritan

Details
Accomplish a Good Deed โ€” complete any single side favour for an NPC and turn it in.

Man of the People

MissableDetails
Accomplish all 26 Good Deeds. The catch: some are locked behind NPCs who disappear after story events, so do them as you go. Tip: the counter also ticks up on a manual save โ†’ complete a deed โ†’ reload, so you can safeguard progress if a deed bugs out.

End the Suffering

Details
Close a Timeloop โ€” defeat the Timeloop's Guardian, then place the correct Amine Prism to seal it.

Amateur Detective

Details
Resolve a Mystery โ€” solve any one of the world's investigation puzzles.

Super-Sleuth

Details
Resolve all 46 Mysteries. None are missable, but many need keys or passcodes found in research items โ€” so research thoroughly as you explore.
Combat โ€” Hazes & Hollows 9 trophies

The bestiary clears. Hazes are the coloured blob-entities; make sure you strike the Haze itself, not just the Hollow it inhabits, or it won't count.

All the Rage

Details
Defeat all three tiers (I, II, III) of the Haze of Rage. You meet every tier naturally through the story, and the final Eye of God area requires all colours/tiers anyway — no farming needed.

Buzz Killer

Details
Defeat all three tiers of the Haze of Ecstasy. Comes through normal progression; the Eye of God finale forces any you're missing.

Fear No Evil

Details
Defeat all three tiers of the Haze of Terror — guaranteed via the story plus the Eye of God finale.

Good Grief

Details
Defeat all three tiers of the Haze of Grief — guaranteed via the story plus the Eye of God finale.

Big Game Hunter

Details
Defeat all 5 Hollow Walker variants โ€” the large humanoid enemies.

Rise and Phol

Details
Defeat 40 Tier I Hazes. Strike the coloured Haze entity directly; racks up over the game.

Phol Guy

Details
Defeat 40 Tier II Hazes. Every kill counts, even respawns — so farm the Hollow Walkers with attached Hazes in mid-game areas before closing each Timeloop, since enemies stop respawning once a loop is closed.

The Harder They Phol

Details
Defeat 40 Tier III Hazes. Do these before closing an area's Timeloops, since closing loops stops enemies respawning.

Legend of the Phol

Details
Close all 14 Timeloops, then defeat every remaining enemy until each location reads 'Threats: Clear.' The platinum's biggest job. Tip: close each area's loops before the final sweep to stop respawns, and check the map โ€” some hidden enemy rooms are easy to miss.
Gear & Upgrades 3 trophies โ€” all missable

These rely on Lymbic Shards, the upgrade currency dropped by Lymbic enemies. What makes them technically missable: once you close an area's Timeloops its enemies stop respawning, so your Shards become finite for the rest of the run. In practice you earn so many โ€” especially from the four bosses in the Eye of God (required to finish Act 3) โ€” that you'll only fall short by deliberately wasting them. Just do your key upgrades before the final Timeloop sweep.

Good Vibrations

MissableDetails
Upgrade one of each of the four weapon types to Grade 5. Needs plenty of Lymbic Shards, so finish it before you close all Timeloops.

Accessorizing

MissableDetails
Missable. Upgrade any Defensive Gear to Grade 4 at Blacksmith Victor. Flagged missable because Lymbic Shards become finite after you close Timeloops — but you're given enough to get there unless you deliberately waste them, so don't pour shards into everything else.

To the Teeth

MissableDetails
Equip two Grade 5 weapons and two Grade 4 defensive gear at once. The most resource-hungry gear trophy โ€” don't waste shards.
Research & Lore 7 trophies

Research every item you pick up. Each item belongs to one of six lore groups; complete all six for the gold. Not missable, but essential for solving Mysteries and Vaults.

War Correspondent

Details
Research the 9 Civil War items (of 45 research items total) — hand them to Tania in the APC to unlock the lore articles.

Historian

Details
Research all 7 Hadea items — give them to Tania in the APC.

Conspiracy Theorist

Details
Research all 8 Conspiracy items via Tania in the APC.

Gentleman Scholar

Details
Research all 8 Order of the Eye items via Tania in the APC.

Demonologist

Details
Research all 8 Lymbic Invasions items via Tania in the APC.

Sworn to Secrecy

Details
Research all 5 Vigil items via Tania in the APC. Collecting every research category also earns the gold Well-Read.

Well-Read

Details
Research every item in the game โ€” pops when all six lore groups above are complete.
Exploration & Collectibles 13 trophies

The big treasure hunt: Relics, Glyphs, Drone Modules, Vaults, caps and NPCs. Three here are missable (Antiquarian, Lend an Ear, Ever After) because they tie back to NPCs and Good Deeds.

Vault Raider

Details
Unseal a Vault of Forbidden Knowledge โ€” there are 6, each solved with clues from your research; opening one contains a Relic.

Tech-Savvy

Details
Acquire all 8 Drone Modules โ€” combat abilities found on OMSIF soldiers or as Mystery rewards.

Emotional Damage

Details
Acquire at least one Glyph of each Lymbic Sphere (one of each of the 5 types).

Emotional Warfare

Details
Acquire all Glyphs of each Lymbic Sphere โ€” the full set (5 glyphs ร— 5 types).

Curator

Details
Acquire any 10 of the 29 Relics — equippable gear giving a passive buff plus an active ability. They come from Good Deed rewards, closing Timeloops, and Vaults of Forbidden Knowledge.

Antiquarian

MissableDetails
Acquire all 29 Relics. Some come from Good Deeds, Timeloops and Vaults โ€” and because a few Good Deeds are missable, this is too. Do your deeds as you go.

Well-Travelled

Details
Visit every location on the map — happens naturally by Act 3 when you reach the Eye of God, so it can't be missed.

Lend an Ear

MissableDetails
Converse with all 21 NPCs. Missable โ€” some NPCs disappear after Act 2 events (e.g. around Pathem Abbey), so talk to everyone you meet, early.

Keymaster

Details
Solve 25 puzzles that require the right item โ€” the lock-and-key style Mysteries; cumulative.

Long and (not so) Winding Road

Details
Traverse the tunnel from the Lymbic Forge to the Eye of God โ€” a story-area trek in Act 3.

It's Mine Now

Details
Acquire a means of transportation โ€” obtain the vehicle you unlock during the story.

Ever After

MissableDetails
Ensure all possible NPCs end up at Lake Cynon. Missable โ€” depends on completing certain Good Deeds in the right order (e.g. 'Love Thy Neighbour' in Act 1 and 'Man's Best Friend' before Pathem Abbey), so follow a route.

Passion for Fashion

Details
Acquire and wear all 10 baseball caps โ€” equip each one at least once (don't turn on the 'no hat' cosmetic and forget to cycle them).
FAQ

Hell Is Us platinum โ€” quick answers

Is Hell Is Us hard to platinum?
No โ€” it's a fair 3/10. There are no difficulty trophies and nothing online. The only real challenge is staying organised, because 7 trophies are missable โ€” mostly Good Deeds and NPC conversations that lock after story events.
How long does the platinum take?
Around 25โ€“50 hours. Closer to 25 if you follow a collectible route, or up to 50 if you self-explore the no-map world (which is honestly the intended, more rewarding way to play).
What are the missable trophies?
Seven: Man of the People (all Good Deeds), Antiquarian (all Relics), Lend an Ear (talk to all NPCs), Ever After (all NPCs to Lake Cynon), and the three gear trophies (Good Vibrations, Accessorizing, To the Teeth) which need finite upgrade resources. Do Good Deeds and NPC chats as you go, and don't waste Lymbic Shards.
Is it a one-playthrough platinum?
Yes. One run covers everything if you're thorough. Just keep the missables list handy and back up a save before major story beats in case an NPC or deed locks.
Is Hell Is Us worth playing?
Very much โ€” it's a genuine hidden gem, especially free on PS Plus Extra. The no-map, no-marker exploration and deep investigation systems make it unlike anything else, and the platinum is a relaxed, satisfying reason to see it through.
