Gamescom kicked off with a two-hour Opening Night Live showcase, and it was one of the busiest in years. From a surprise free Witcher 3 remaster to a stack of new RPGs, revivals and remakes, here's everything worth knowing — and when you'll actually get to play it.
THE WITCHER 3: WILD HUNT REMASTERED
CD Projekt Red's classic is getting a full next-gen remaster, and the best part is the price: it's a free upgrade for existing owners. Expect a complete graphics overhaul, ray tracing, enhanced combat, cross-platform mod support and both major expansions (Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine) included. It launches September 29. A brand-new DLC, "Songs of the Past," follows in 2027 and looks set to lay narrative groundwork for The Witcher IV.
THE BIG RPGs
- Exodus — the ambitious sci-fi RPG from a team of BioWare and Mass Effect veterans, where your choices can cost decades of time. Out April 7, 2027.
- Final Fantasy VII Revelation — a new trailer showed off the Weapon boss battles. Due 2027.
- Nodusfall — Genshin studio Hoyoverse revealed a co-op fantasy action game with a distinctly Elden Ring flavour. Release TBA.
THE CLASSICS RETURN
- Metro 2039 — the fourth mainline Metro, with a gameplay and story trailer. February 2027.
- Gears of War: E-Day — a story-focused narrative trailer. October 6.
- Turok: Origins — a three-player co-op shooter. Spring 2027.
- Mega Man: Dual Override — a new Robot Master (Twinkle Girl) was shown and Proto Man is back. 2027.
HORROR
- Silent Hill: Townfall — a first-person entry in the series, with its voice cast revealed. September 24.
- Ontos — a horror-with-puzzles game from Frictional, the studio behind Soma. 2027.
- There Are No Ghosts at the Grand — a Lovecraftian musical adventure. 2026.
STRATEGY & REMAKES
- Heroes of Might & Magic III Remake — a full remake including both expansions. TBA.
- Rainbow Six Tactics — a turn-based strategy spin-off starring Siege operators, from designers of Mario + Rabbids. 2027.
- Game of Thrones: War for Westeros — first gameplay for the real-time strategy game. 2027.
- Rayman Legends Retold — a remake with new musical levels. October 1.
WILD CARDS
- Ananta — an urban open-world action game already being dubbed "anime GTA." January 15, 2027.
- Path of Exile 2 — the free-to-play action-RPG finally hits its full 1.0 launch. December 11.
- Hitman: World of Assassination — Snoop Dogg joins as a celebrity Elusive Target, live August 27 to September 26.
- Crazy Taxi: World Tour — a first look at its multiplayer. 2027.
