Our Verdict

Mafia III has one of the best openings and one of the best stories in the whole series — Lincoln's revenge is angry, sharply written and unafraid of the era it depicts, and New Bordeaux is a genuinely striking recreation of 1968 Louisiana. The problem is everything between the story beats: taking down rackets is a loop you'll repeat dozens of times, and it wears thin long before the credits. Play it for the narrative, the soundtrack and the atmosphere, and treat the empire-building as background noise. Flawed, but worth it.

Let the Good Times Roll — Full Roadmap

A long platinum with real planning attached. Difficulty doesn't matter — play on Easy — but 15 trophies are missable and several are mutually exclusive, so you need at least two playthroughs. Get the plan right up front and it's more time than skill.

Missable
🎷 Plan your two playthroughs before you start. Difficulty affects nothing (play on Easy), but 15 trophies are missable and three pairs directly conflict: We're in This Together (all three underbosses alive) vs Just You and Me (only one alive); The New Boss (flip 16 racket bosses) vs No Loose Ends (kill them all); and Live Another Day (recruit 15 informants) vs Can't Trust a Rat (kill 15). Do the keep-everyone-alive, spare-everyone run first — it's also the one where all three underbosses' side-missions are available.

Step-by-Step Roadmap

Step 1

Run 1 — the 'good' route

Play on Easy and keep everyone alive. Flip racket bosses (16 for The New Boss), recruit informants (15 for Live Another Day), keep all three underbosses alive and Loyal by splitting districts fairly, and complete all three underbosses' side-missions (IRA Don't Ask, I Need a Favor, .45 in My Hand) before the endgame.

Step 2

Set up the racket pair

Two combat trophies need different rackets: on one racket kill every Enforcer first (Softened 'Em Up), on another go straight for the boss without touching the Enforcers (I'm Goin' In!). Do these early while you have plenty of rackets left.

Step 3

Finish run 1 & the DLCs

Complete the story through Yet Here We Are with all three underbosses alive, then finish the game. Afterwards, clear the three DLC packs — Faster, Baby!, Stones Unturned and Sign of the Times — which add 30 trophies and are entirely separate from the missable planning.

Step 4

Run 2 — the 'bad' route

Start again and invert everything: kill all racket bosses (No Loose Ends), kill 15 informants (Can't Trust a Rat), and reach Yet Here We Are with only one underboss alive (Just You and Me). You can rush the story on this run — no need to redo side content.

Step 5

Cleanup → Platinum

Mop up the counters that carry over: takedowns (300), stealth takedowns (100), brutal takedowns (50), the money totals and the driving stunts. When the last one lands, Let the Good Times Roll is yours.

Detailed Trophy Pages

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to platinum Mafia III?
Around 40–60 hours. The first playthrough is the long one — full story, all underboss side-missions and most of the counters — while the second can be rushed. The three DLC packs add roughly 10 hours on top.
How hard is the Mafia III platinum?
PIXELFORGE rates it 4 / 10. Difficulty settings don't affect any trophy, so you can play on Easy throughout. The challenge is entirely organisational: 15 missable trophies and three mutually exclusive pairs.
Why do I need two playthroughs?
Because three pairs of trophies directly contradict each other: keeping all three underbosses alive vs keeping only one; flipping all 16 racket bosses vs killing them all; and recruiting 15 informants vs killing 15. You can't satisfy both halves on one save.
What are the missable trophies in Mafia III?
There are 15: IRA Don't Ask, I Need a Favor, .45 in My Hand, We're in This Together, Just You and Me, Family, Big Earner, The New Boss, Live Another Day, No Loose Ends, Can't Trust a Rat, Softened 'Em Up, I'm Goin' In!, Never Saw it Coming and Flambé. Most are tied to racket and underboss decisions that lock in before the finale.
Do I need the DLC for the platinum?
No. The platinum needs only the 56 base-game trophies. Faster, Baby!, Stones Unturned and Sign of the Times add 10 each for 86 total and 1,755 points — and none of them involve the missable planning.
